The UN  has received $2.5m in BUSD from the charity arm of Binance. Making it the first time that the UN will accept crypto.

The United Nations Refugee Agency accepted the stable coin donated in support of victims of the war in Ukraine on April 5, 2022. And there was official confirmation from Binance Charity Group as seen in the tweet below.

“Binance Charity’s commitment to the families fleeing the way in Ukraine shows the innovative philanthropic power of crypto in action,” – Anne-Marie Grey, Executive Director and CEP of USA for UNHCR

This donation is part of a $10 million commitment from Binance. They had donated $4.5 million before now, making a total of $7 million donated so far.

This move is yet significant as ut becomes the first time the UK government will receive crypto.

Shortly after several donations directly to the Ukraine government from crypto folks, the government gave a green light to crypto in the country.

No, this is itself not enough for UK government to pronounce adoption of crypto. But it certainly is a step in the right direction.

“Every day we see more casualties, more destruction, more lives lost. Our hearts ache for the people of Ukraine. We are proud that we’ve been able to work with UNHCR to deliver its first BUSD crypto donation,” – Hele Hai, Head of Binance Charity.
